What happens when you leave your luggage at the airport? Here are the best ways to protect it from being stolen
A travel van has been the latest item stolen from a Melbourne airport, leaving a passenger stranded in the back of the vehicle.
The incident happened at about 8:30pm local time on Friday, and was captured on CCTV.
The driver of the van, a 29-year-old Australian woman from Melbourne, told police that she had left the van’s front door unlocked, so it could be left in the open for hours.
“I was going to get my suitcase from the baggage claim, and I went to the baggage area and left the front door open,” she told police.
She added that she was waiting for her luggage when she realised her suitcase had been taken. “
The van has all my belongings inside.”

“When I went into the car I was thinking ‘where did it go?’
And then the van started speeding off.”
It is not clear how the van ended up in the baggage-only area.
The van was parked in the airport’s security area for about an hour before being towed by the airport, which has no CCTV cameras or cameras inside.
It is unknown how much money the passenger lost in the theft.
The Melbourne Police Service said the van was stolen from the security area at about 9:00pm local.
The security van was used to carry luggage to and from Melbourne International Airport on the day it was stolen.
The airport said the driver was arrested and charged with theft of valuables, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
